Dear First Grade Families,
Welcome to First Grade and a special warm welcome to Liberty School if you are new to our district. I feel very fortunate to be blessed with another wonderful class. I know that this year will be a year filled with adventures and tremendous growth for your student.
Many may know that my ties to Liberty are very strong. I have been a part of the Liberty community in various ways throughout my life, including being the K/1 teacher for the past 18 years. Being a former graduate of Liberty School, I realize what a truly special place it is.
I completed my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a CLAD emphasis at Dominican University in the spring of 2002. I completed my undergraduate studies at Sonoma State University. I earned a BA with an emphasis in Human Development. My roots in the profession run deep. I have been involved in volunteering, aiding and teaching in classrooms throughout Sonoma County for over 24 years. You will find that I am an extremely hard worker and I am very dedicated to enriching the lives of my students.
Besides my love for teaching, I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, outdoor activities, and traveling. I have been married for 15 years to my husband, Tony. We have a 12 year old daughter, Madison (Maddie) and a 6 1/2 year old, Paige who is also in 1st grade this year. They are incredible girls and keep us very busy. They enrich our lives with laughter, love, and happiness.
This year, I am very excited to be teaching the first grade class, as well as continuing to be EL Director. I am also very fortunate to have Mrs. Florez as my aide this year. She has worked at Liberty School for the past 14 years. You will find her kindness, dedication to education, and friendly demeanor as true assets to our class. She is a wonderful addition to our family. As always, I will be working closely with Mrs. Baxman. Together we have coordinated wonderful and exciting activities and lessons/units. This year will be a time of amazing social and academic growth for your child.
I know there are many
unknowns about education this year. I
want you to know that I am dedicated to making this the best year possible for
your child under these challenging circumstances. In order to make this year successful, I need
your help and commitment to your child’s education as well. We will me holding 3 Zoom meetings
daily. These meetings will last for
approximately ½ hour each and teach writing/morning meeting (9:00), reading
(10:00), and math (11:00) directly with myself, Mrs. Baxman, Mrs. Leighann, or
Mrs. Florez. Mrs. Baxman and I will be holding office hours from 12:00-1:00 daily. Feel free to have your student log in if they need additional support or have any questions. Every year we need parents
support, but this year even more so. We
need to work closely as a team to ensure that your child is meeting grade level
expectations. I have the confidence that
together we can make this happen.
