Welcome to Fifth Grade!
My name is Nick Buckley and I am the fifth grade teacher at Liberty School. Throughout the year I will be working very closely with my fellow teachers Judy Bowser (6th grade) and Jeff Ray (4th grade) to create the best possible learning environment for my fifth grade students. You may have seen me a few years ago working with and being mentored by Katie Lundy (2nd grade) and Laura Berg (3rd grade) as the 2/3 teacher. I learned a great deal from these two highly respected educators during my first year here at Liberty School before moving to 5th grade and becoming a member of the upper grade team.
Before coming to Liberty School I was working for the Old Adobe District as their RTI (Response to Academic Intervention) teacher. As the RTI teacher, I was able to gain valuable experience working with all grade levels and running Old Adobe’s innovative visual literacy program. Based on my work within this program and reputation throughout the Old Adobe District, I was able to receive a strong recommendation from my colleagues and land a full-time teaching position at Liberty Elementary School.
I grew up here in Petaluma, attending Bernard Eldredge Elementary, Kenilworth Junior High School, and Casa Grande High School. I received both my BS and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Sonoma State University.
When I’m not at Liberty School, I keep myself busy by playing a variety of sports, such as football, basketball, baseball and golf. I also love spending time with my family in San Francisco, Petaluma, and Healdsburg. I am very lucky to come from a large, supportive family spread throughout the Bay Area. I am also lucky enough to come from a family of educators, as both my mom and my aunt have been elementary teachers here in Petaluma for many years.
